Block A Classes
7:30–8:00 AM
Penmanship
Explicit instruction in the easy way to form letters in print and script will improve your child’s handwriting and increase confidence.
*This class reinforces sound/letter connections and is highly recommended for OG students.
Keyboarding
Students learn to keep their fingers on “home row,” and to type while looking only at the screen.
Block B Classes
8:00–11:30 AM
Select two classes plus STEAM
Prescription Math - Students may take one or two math classes during B
2 or 3 students per teacher
Each math student receives diagnostic pretesting to determine their specific needs. A multisensory math program is then custom designed to meet their needs to fill in gaps and move forward on a firm foundation.
An additional Prescription Math period is available for older students during Block C.
Orton-Gillingham Phonetic Reading Instruction - One reading class available
2 to 6 students per teacher
Students have fun learning to decode and understand text. This class is a must for beginning or struggling readers. Highly trained teachers use multisensory techniques to teach the fundamentals of reading.
Writer’s Workshop (Grades 3 through high school) - One writing workshop is available at this time. Another workshop may be added if needed
This highly individualized workshop meets students at their level and moves them forward. Beginning writers focus on sentence and paragraph writing and advanced writers practice research techniques, organization, clarity, structure, and the importance of variety. Everyone will learn useful tricks to get started and the essentials of proofreading and editing.
Steam Explorations - All students take STEAM
In this class, students explore the many ways that science, technology, engineering, art, and math are part of their daily lives. By incorporating open-ended investigation with experiments and art projects, students will learn how to answer questions and create solutions to real-world problems.
There is a short break included in block B. Students may bring a snack from home or purchase from KA.
Block C
11:30 AM
Learning Spelling and Vocabulary through Morphology (ends at 12 PM)
Morphographs are the smallest part of a word that has meaning. In this active, exciting class, students learn the definition and spelling of up to sixty of these useful little word parts. This knowledge is the key to unlocking the meaning of hundreds of words resulting in higher SAT test scores, increased reading comprehension, and a larger general vocabulary.
Prescription Math 3 (ends at 12:30 PM)
Note: Kosasa Academy is not an allergen free zone.
