Admissions
Rolling Admissions
Although it is advantageous for students to begin their attendance at KA at the beginning of the school year, applications are accepted throughout the calendar year.
Requirements for Admission
All prospective students must have a current neuropsychological evaluation. Mrs. Kosasa is happy to refer students to qualified examiners if necessary. Students must have a release from their former schools before beginning full time group instruction.
Admissions Process
The Kosasa Academy’s admissions process has two purposes. Firstly, to determine if KA is able to meet the educational and psycho-social needs of the student and secondly, to determine the precise educational program (including instructors) necessary to assure the success of the student.
Admissions Process Steps
1. Parent submits neuropsychological evaluations to KA. If the student does not have a recent evaluation (within three years) Mrs. Kosasa will refer the student to a qualified examiner.
2. Student and parents meet individually and as a group with Mrs. Kosasa. A school tour will be provided at this time.
3. If the student’s parents and Mrs. Kosasa agree that KA is likely to meet the student’s needs, the parent(s):
a. Provide KA with all school documents such as grade cards and progress reports.
b. Provide consent for Mrs. Kosasa to communicate with all professionals (teachers, administrators, therapists, medical doctors) working with the child currently or in the past six years.
c. Parents may apply for financial aid through FACTS.
4. The prospective student simultaneously begins individual placement testing and instruction. Individual instruction allows KA teachers to discover first hand how the student learns best and the teachers with whom the student is most comfortable.
5. When the administrative research is completed, Mrs. Kosasa meets with the parents to discuss the proposed educational plan and tuition.
6. If the parents accept this proposal, the student segues into group instruction at their own pace. This process can take from three days to three months.
